Winchester HC recognised as an England Hockey Talent Centre

The Club is proud to become an accredited England Hockey Talent Centre. This is a whole Club achievement as it recognises the way we work to develop players and our club and involves club members at every level, including of course our Coaches, Team Captain’s and Managers, all members and parents.

The Club works on developing a quality development environment for our younger players to develop their natural talent, putting them on the right road to longer term fulfilment.

For many years, Winchester HC has been providing opportunities for hundreds of youngsters to take up the sport, improve and even compete at a national level.  The club prides itself on their “open to all” approach, including children who just want to take part and enjoy themselves to those that have the ambition to take their hockey to an elite level.  Most days of the week, you will find a group of children, coached by enthusiastic parents and helpers, training or playing at Kings School, University of Winchester at Bar End or Ganger Farm in Romsey.

The club also has an outreach programme, visiting the local primary schools and offering weekly training for any youngsters that want to try out the sport.  Teams compete at all levels, from beginners to the very top national levels.  In the last 5 years alone, the club has been national outdoor under 14 and under 16 champions, indoor under 16 champions and 5 players have represented England age groups.

The Club really appreciates the support of our Junior sponsor @HappyHotTubs for their fantastic ongoing support that really makes a difference to our junior programme - they are super sponsors and we sincerely thank them.

Over the last 12 months, the Club has been working with England Hockey as part of its new Talent System and has been rewarded with an accreditation as an England Hockey Talent Centre.

This prestigious accreditation is a recognition of its fantastic junior development and offers a tremendous springboard to grow hockey in the local area. The Club seeks further local pitches and a clubhouse facility to ensure it can continue to serve our community.
