WHC News Update Feb 2021
Greetings All.
Hockey Plans.
The Committee last met on 3rd Feb, and at the moment we cannot see us being in a position to be able to re-start play or any form of training before the end of March. That said, if something changes, we will move quickly to take this up, and the committee is looking to see what we could organise for April through to July.
Summer Hockey
We are hopeful that there will be opportunities to enter and play within summer leagues, and are planning on making sure we can access facilities to enable us to coach, train and play as much as possible – whenever we can. We will look to enter all possible summer hockey programmes, and we will ask everyone to let us know if they would like to be involved and participate in this when we know more.
We are also considering running club 7’s evening slots from whenever we can access pitches – again we will let people know when we can.
For junior section, we will be looking to run the full timetable of planned training, coaching & possibly fixtures, from whenever we can right through the spring & summer.
Always of course, we remain dependent on the access to facilities, government guidelines and directives from England Hockey.
Club Social Events
Important Diary Date: We have a very special, WHC, fireside chat interview with one of GB and England’s most capped players coming up on the Wednesday 17th Feb @ 19:30. Check your message with the full info on this sent out to all Members through Teamo.
If you have ideas for any further socially distanced events or activities we could hold, or you would like to lead or get involved with, please just let me or Holly Cameron know.
Future Plans & 21/22 season
Quite simply – we have to remain flexible until we have a clear path for progress. Our plans for hockey remain fluid, and because of this we cannot firmly predict what our opportunities and potential financial commitments to these will be. When we know, the Committee will be in a clearer position to come back to the club with details of all aspects of running the club at this time. Our plan will be to hold our AGM, via Zoom if necessary, in May. Please bear with us on this.
Umpiring skills & understanding.
If you are umpiring, ever had to blow a whistle, just started, or wish to understand the technical detail of rule interpretation – we really recommend following, watching and listening in to @fhumpires or search for FH Umpires on You Tube. (watched and followed by HHUA / SCHUA & NPUA)
Further Information.
Currently we do not have any further updates from England Hockey, or the Hampshire / South regions regarding any resumption of fixtures, league programmes or the EH re-organisation etc, but as soon as we know, we will update everyone.
We believe England Hockey will be advertising for roles within the new South Central structure in the near future, and if this is of interest to you, please check into the EH website, and this website where we will publicise any info as it becomes available.
Hope to see everyone on the fireside chat on the 17th.
Best wishes
Andy Craig
Chairman
