U12 girls A and B match reports

Both the U12 girls team had a good run out today and demonstrated that they are getting stronger and better as the season progresses. Lots to work on!

A team vs Bournemouth (Away): result 1-2

On a sunny day in Bournemouth the Winchester girls started the game defending hard against an initial barrage of attack from the oppo team. Some super defending kept Bournemouth at bay. The girls then settled down and started to counter attack to great effect. With a well linked set of passes from Bess to Francesca and onto Arabella the ball was then slapped to put Winchester up 1-0. The score remained with both teams getting a fair amount of play in both halves. The second half started with a run from Bournemouth which took our defense by surprise and the scores leveled. The central play feeding Francesca up front put pressure on the Bournemouth defense but we could not break through the wall of players who all too frequently were given a little too much time to get ready. Speed is the essence of war and it was sadly Bournemouth who took advantage in the last quarter to close with a well managed short corner. The final score 2:1 to Bournemouth was probably a fair reflection on the day. A well played match with some good lessons to take back to training.

B team vs Southampton (Away): result 3-4

After a very structured 1st period, Winchester where 2-1 up. Phoebe and Anna controlled the middle of the park very well and Winchester used the width to great effect, with Isla Crooks and Emily pushing the flanks. Unfortunately after the break Winchester lost some of their shape and attacked the centre of the park, which culminated to often in lost possession. Southampton took advantage and scored. A break away goal from Poppy R made it 3-2. The last period Winchester still struggled to regain their 1st period shape and Southampton’s skilful midfield started to dominate against a tiring Winchester defence grabbing an equaliser and a last minute goal to clinch victory.
