COVID Regulations Update
Thank you for your co-operation in helping us comply with the England Hockey regulations around COVID.
The Club has recently changed guidelines for spectators, such that they are no longer allowed inside the cages at either Kings or Bar End. Please comply with this and watch from outside the cages, socially distanced, from now on. Note, this currently does not apply to under 8 and under 10 parents who may enter the cage at Kings, as long as they remain on the tarmac strip.
Please make sure that you continue to sign you and/or your child into the Teamo Playsafe register, every time you attend a training session or match, to help us fulfil our track & trace requirements.
Full details of regulations and guidance can be found on the Club website, here.

Sponsorship Opportunities
As we look to invest in the coaching programme and resources, we are giving local business an opportunity to sponsor individual teams or the entire junior section.
For a modest contribution, sponsors will have:
Their name associated with specific teams
Bespoke coverage in newsletters and social media
Recognition of their sponsorship in local press coverage
We would very much like to hear from you if you are interested, or have contacts at local business which may be prepared to get involved. Please do get in touch.
TEAM SUMMIT U14 GIRLS
19th September: v King Edward VI School
Results:
Winchester 0 KES U14 “A” 8
Winchester 1 (Akerman) KES U14 “B” 0
Two very different games today where two mixed ability u14 girls teams came up against a strong opposition at KES. Despite losing in the first match, there were positives to take from it, in particular the girls willingness to soldier on and keep their enthusiasm up. The second match went the other way with Winchester beating KES and showing the we have a breadth of talent across the squad. For many it was the first competitive match of the season and it was great to see the girls on the pitch once again. Bring on the return match on home turf!
TEAM FORGHETTI U16 BOYS
20th September: v Wimbledon
Results: Winchester 6 (Lander 3, Coleman, Marsh, Crompton) Wimbledon 0
Another Six Goals on Another Sunny Sunday
Winchester Boys under 16 lined up for home fixture against a stronger Wimbledon than the week before – and this time a full-length match.
Early play saw Wimbledon learn the hard way about talking back to the umpire so lost the advantage of a penalty corner. Not long after Ollie Lander opened the scoring from the edge of the D. Soon after, he doubled the lead with a fantastic reverse sweep that gave their keeper no chance. A lifted ball into the D was controlled well by Harry Cook who set up Alfie Marsh to finish making the score 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a much more even affair with no more goals. However, Lander resumed normal service at the start of the second half when his perfectly weighted a through ball was calmly taken round the keeper by Dylan Coleman.
Lander completed his hat trick in some style; after intercepting a defensive clearance, an upright reverse was driven into the top of the net at such speed the goalkeeper stood no chance.
A Henry Crompton tap in after a goalmouth scramble completed the scoring and an outstanding team performance.
While not on the scoresheet, Max Wedderburn impressed with a composed display in front of the back four. As a result, Winchester ended the game in complete control and with a clean sheet.
(Special thanks to Harry Wilson for coming to the coaching meeting despite an injury meaning he couldn’t play.)
U12 GIRLS
19th September: v King Edward VI School
Results:
Winchester (year 6) 1 KES U12 ‘D’ 0
Winchester (year 6) 0 KES U12 ‘C’ 1
First matches of the season and the girls all played really well. In the first game great link up play between Ella Ingham and Orla Edgecombe in the midfield lead to lots of pressure and numerous short corners. Eventually Winchester took the lead and thanks to some strong tackling from Freya Balme the Winchester goal was never threatened.
In their second match our new star goalkeeper Saoirse Redican made some great saves to keep the score 0-0 but could do nothing about a well taken KES goal. Second half Winchester kept piling the pressure on but despite Bella Williams and Charlotte Benzie both going close Winchester couldnt find the equaliser they deserved.
Some great hockey from the year 6's and lots to work on in training before our next match against Bournemouth.
Results:
Winchester (year 7) 1 (Bradley) KES U12 ‘B’ 0
Winchester (year 7) 1 (Bradley) KES U12 ‘A’ 1
Teamwork, commitment, it was like they had never been away. First half the girls started to use the whole width of the pitch and a quick pass from Willa Knatchbull to Annie Clegg who found Francesca Bradley in space in the D to make the score 1 - 0. Second half was constant pressure but despite hitting a post and making lots of chances the girls could not add to their tally
Second match against the elite of KES. Again Winchester started really quick and after some great work from Anna Dale - Smith, Francecsa had the easiest of tap ins. For the rest of the first half it was backs to the wall as Winchester decided it was best not to mark KES best player!! Despite some scrabble defence from Erin Gately at half time it was 1 - 1. Second half Lily Bristowe decided not let their best player out of her sight. The game was end to end but neither side could score the decisive goal.
A great start to the season with the team spirit shown and some composure in front of goal this team is going to go far..
U14 BOYS
The U-14 boys group started their match play season with an internal game at Kings on Sunday morning. They lined up in social distance fashion for the cameras and then got underway with 4 x 15 mins quarters in the blistering heat with every drinks break very much welcomed.
Many thanks to Matt de Lara (and later on) Alice Lander for umpiring – great to see them in action… They are now on their way to capturing one of Graham Beck’s coveted WHC green umpiring shirts, as soon as they get fully qualified!
The Harry Trussler’s gold shirts team just beat Tom Brunt’s Lilywhites 2-1 in a very close encounter with very promising performances from many boys, some still only 11/12 years old. Such was the tight midfield battle the goalkeepers might have liked a bit more action in the D’s at times, but the goalies at both ends made several important saves when the ball got to them.
If looks as though many of the boys in this group are going to have 2 exciting years ahead of them………...
A similar match is planned for next Sunday when many of those unable to play this week will hopefully be able to join in… correct logging in to Teamo / family commitments allowing!
