U12 Girls
Surbiton Hockey Tournament - Winners!
Winchester U12 girls got up in the dark to meet at Surbiton hockey club for an 8.30am start on Sun 15th December, to play in the Tony Smith charity U13 tournament. The girls dominated their four pool games, but quality goalkeeping and shooting mistakes prevented them from taking the myriad of chances created. However, the strong team spirit and competitive instinct of the group enabled three 1-0 wins (v Southgate, Guildford & Surbiton) and a solitary 0-2 loss to London Wayfarers. This left an anxious watch for the final group game, where Wayfarers had to win to progress. They took the lead v Surbiton, but a shriek from Winchester recognised an equaliser that opened their route to the semi.
Next up in the semi-final was the might of Wimbledon but Winchester ran in three goals after going behind to march through.
So, Woking in the final. This was an edgy match, with both teams looking a little jaded after an intense morning. However, Winchester scored first and largely dominated the play to deservedly take the silverwear and medals.
A super day out for the Hampshire club. Well done all.
