Winchester Hockey Club Oracle Edition 19

The 2021-22 Season is Here!

The Winchester Hockey Club ‘Oracle’ extends a big welcome to players, parents, umpires and supporters for the new hockey season! You can expect an edition of this newsletter most weeks with match reports, club achievements, useful information and forthcoming events to look out for.

This week’s publication includes details of the annual Club Day taking place on Sunday 5th September (with a special request for volunteers please!), details of club vacancies, a reminder of the new season’s junior training schedule and a “Congratulations” to our players selected to represent Wessex Leopards and South Saxons.

Winchester Boys Represent U17 Wessex Leopards

Congratulations to Dylan Coleman, Henry Crompton, Ollie Lander and Alex England who were selected to represent the Wessex Leopards U17s in the Futures Cup.

Winchester Girls Represent South Saxons

Congratulations to Amelie Carter and Millie Morgan who were selected to represent South Saxons in the Girls’ Regional Hockey Championships at the end of the 2020-21 season in July.

Unfortunately Millie was injured so unable to take part, however the two South Saxons teams performed well. Both Saxons teams progressed into the semi-finals, each winning two games and losing one in their pool. In the semis, both Saxons teams lost to top quality teams that had beaten them in the pool (West Panthers, who ended up winning the championship, and Ulster Pumas). Amelie’s team came 3rd and the other Saxons team came 4th, with all the girls working really hard and enjoying some very competitive hockey. A great experience!

Club Vacancies

Club Welfare Officer

Interested in people & knowledge transfer? The club has a vacancy for two people to become joint Club Welfare Officers, providing the essential bridge between England Hockey, our club and our members.

This an important role, providing all coaches and team managers with relevant up-to-date information, and linking with EH to provide support as needed. The ability to communicate easily with members & players of all ages is needed, as is the understanding of strict confidentiality. There is an excellent programme already in place to pick up from, and the club will support all training associated with this role.

Opportunities exist to become involved with higher level regional and even national competitions through England Hockey, along with access to international events.

Marketing Officer

WHC are also looking for a volunteer to work with the committee in developing sponsorship opportunities and securing sponsors to increase the club’s impact and reach. The role would also involve working with sponsors to raise their profile.

Interested?

If you can spare 60 minutes a week maximum, and are interested to know more, please contact either Tim Lander (Junior Chair) or Andy Craig (Chair).

WHC Club Day - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September

The new 2021-22 season starts this coming weekend with our very own Club Day. Seniors’ club day will take place on Saturday 4th with all welcome to support the intra-club hockey and warm-up matches against Ladies’ Forest 1st XI, Ladies’ Fareham 2nd XI and Fareham Mens’ 2nd XI.

Sunday 5th will see the complete day for our junior programme starting with Minis U8s at 9am and ending with the U16s at 3pm. Dust off the sticks and get down to Kings School for a catch up with team mates and friends!

As in previous years, we will have a fully functioning bar, a BBQ serving hot food and snacks, with food included in all players’ match fees. Please confirm attendance through Teamo ASAP.

We do need volunteers to help out with the BBQ so if you are available to help out during the day, please contact your age group manager.
