Mens' 1s hosted table-topping Reading 2s in 6 goal fixture.

As has been the pattern this season, Winchester started well, passing the ball around with confidence. Both teams had chances but defences held firm, with Harry Trussler saving on the line for Winchester and Reading defending strongly in their D. Unfortunately Winchester defence was finally breached with two quick goals towards the end of the first half, with Reading firstly taking advantage of Winchester losing possession with a quick move and neat work in the D leading to a tap in, followed shortly after by a direct flick from a short corner into the bottom corner.  Reading were now on top and were stretching the game with their pace.

The pattern of the game continued into the second half with another two quick goals for Reading taking them to 4-0 up.

However Winchester then showed great character and got back into the game with a neat move from a short corner between Giles Hocking and Harry Trussler, converted by Harry. Some great keeping by Conor Baverstock kept Winchester in the game and when Craig Sims scored Winchester's second goal from a short corner, it promised to be an exciting last few minutes. But time was against Winchester and the match ended 4-2 to Reading.

Bringing together a mixture of young players, including several of Winchester’s 2020/21 U16 national cup winners, and senior players this squad is still developing as a team but is showing good promise, which will hopefully translate into results as the season continues.
